Free tool · Referral Loop Map · about 30 minutes Design the loop, not the luck.
Fill in the four parts of the loop: the sentence, the triggers, the introduction and the thank-you. The page drafts your forwardable email as you type.
1 · The sentence
2 · The triggers (situations that should make a client think of you)
3 · The introduction (make passing you on effortless)
4 · The thank-you
5 · The referrers (twenty names in three groups)
In professional services, referral fees can damage the trust that makes an introduction valuable, and some professions restrict them. A personal thank-you and a report back work better. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Your referral loop
Then test it
Test the sentence. Ask your three best clients, separately, to finish “They help ___ to ___.” If the answers differ, narrow the sentence until they converge. Then check you could forward the introduction email in thirty seconds.
The loop is explained in The Brand Code: Referrals Are a System, Not Luck, How to Get More Referrals for a Service Business and The Referral Loop Map, published on 23 October 2026. If clients can't say what you do, start with the Positioning Statement Builder.
Questions
What is a referral loop?
A repeatable system with four parts: a sentence clients can say about you, the trigger moments that should make them think of you, an effortless introduction, and a thank-you that makes the next referral likely.
How many referrers do I need?
Start with the ten who know best what you do. Twenty is a manageable list to look after properly across clients, peers and connectors.
When should I ask for a referral?
Straight after a visible win, at a natural review point, or when a client offers praise. Not during a problem, and not in a mass email.
Should I pay for referrals?
Be careful. In many professional services, referral fees can erode trust and may be restricted. Check your sector's rules first.
